In recent years, American higher education has faced a crisis of confidence. College enrollment has been on a steady decline, with a 15% drop between 2010 and 2021, and a further 10% decrease over the last decade, trends exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is not merely a demographic issue; it reflects a deeper skepticism about the value of a college degree. Surveys show that 56% of Americans now believe a four-year degree is not worth the cost, and confidence in traditional academic programs has waned, especially as many graduates struggle to translate their degrees into meaningful employment.
Financial stress, a strong labor market, and the perception that many college courses are irrelevant to career goals have all contributed to this skepticism. As a result, students, parents, and employers are increasingly questioning whether the traditional college model is the best path to career and economic success.

Healthcare: Certificate programs such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), medical billing and coding, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) prepare students for immediate employment. Associate degrees in nursing, radiologic technology, and medical lab sciences combine classroom and hands-on experience for entry-level roles. Bachelor’s degrees in health sciences open doors to clinical care, public health, and research.

Courses in critical thinking and problem solving teach students to analyze complex issues, evaluate evidence, and make informed decisions—skills that are highly valued by employers across all industries.
